چکیده

Purpose We introduce a novel, generalized tracer kinetic model selection framework to quantify microvascular characteristics of liver and tumor tissue in gadoxetate-enhanced dynamic contrast-enhanced MRI (DCE-MRI). Methods Our includes hierarchy nested models, from which physiological parameters are derived 2 regimes, corresponding the active transport free diffusion gadoxetate. use simulations show sensitivity parameter estimation temporal resolution, time-series duration, noise. apply 8 healthy volunteers (time-series duration up 24 minutes) 10 patients with hepatocellular carcinoma (6 minutes). Results The regime is preferred 98.6% voxels volunteers, 82.1% patients’ non-tumorous liver, 32.2% voxels. Interpatient variations correspond known co-morbidities. Simulations suggest both datasets have sufficient resolution signal-to-noise ratio, while patient data would be improved by using at least 12 minutes. Conclusions In data, gadoxetate exhibits different kinetics: (a) between regions (b) within due disease and/or heterogeneity. selects interpretation each voxel, without preselecting for region or duplicating time-consuming optimizations models identical functional forms.

Microvascular Invasion in Hepatocellular Carcinoma and Liver Transplant.

OBJECTIVES Curative therapy for hepatocellular carcinoma is liver transplant. To date, the Milan Criteria remain the best pretransplant clinical surrogate for tumor behavior and overall prognosis. Microvascular invasion portends a poor prognosis; however, it is often undetectable before transplant. Furthermore, its pretransplant indicators are not well established. In this study, we investigate...

The assessment of function, histopathological changes, and oxidative stress in liver tissue due to ionizing and non-ionizing radiations

Background: Compared to past decades, humans are exposed to rapidly increasing levels of radiofrequency electromagnetic radiations (RF-EMF). Despite numerous studies, the biological effects of human exposure to different levels of RF-EMF are not fully understood, yet. This study aimed to evaluate the bioeffects of exposure to "900/1800 MHz" and “2.4 GHz" RF-EMFs, and x-rays as well as their pot...

Response to transarterial chemoembolization as a biological selection criterion for liver transplantation in hepatocellular carcinoma.

Criteria to select patients with hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) for liver transplantation (LT) are based on tumor size and number of nodules rather than on tumor biology. The present study was undertaken to assess the role of transarterial chemoembolization (TACE) in selecting patients with tumors suitable for LT. Ninety-six consecutive patients with HCC were treated by repeatedly performed TAC...

Peritoneal carcinomatosis secondary to spread of hepatocellular carcinoma originated upon a healthy liver.

This is a female, 34 years, who presented with pain at the right iliac fosse and pre-syncopal symptoms. As background, she has undergone a right ovarian cystectomy due to a serous cystadenoma several years ago and appendectomy. At physical examination she had signs of peritoneal irritation and heterogeneous free fl uid was detected on ultrasound, suggesting hemoperitoneum, so urgent laparotomy ...
